The RMPB is an active part of Alberta’s Scottish cultural community, and reaches out to audiences locally, nationally and internationally.
The band is currently self-funded and performs and competes at many events and ceremonies throughout the year.
Like any organization, running a pipe band requires a significant budget. The cost of uniforms, equipment, travel expenses all add up quickly.
Some examples include:
- New uniform purchases
- Instrument purchases (bagpipe chanter reeds, drum heads)
- Airfare
- Ground Transport
- Accommodations
This excludes other miscellaneous travel expenses usually taken on by individual members of the band to compete and perform on the highland games circuit.
Over the past several years, band members have dedicated significant personal resources, traveling to compete against other bands throughout North America. This speaks to the dedication of the players, and it also says a lot about the value of the RMPB organization itself. If you’re interested in helping out the band with a financial contribution or donation, we’d love to talk to you! Contact Pipe-Major Sean Somers to discuss opportunities.
